'Despicable Me' is now the highest-grossing animated franchise of all time, having taken the record from the 'Shrek' films.
The first film earned £418m, the second £465.6m and the third and latest earning £674m. There are also the 'Minion' spin-off films to add to the hoard for Universal. 'Minions 2' should be out in 2020, adding to the lead over the Shrek franchise.
Following 'Despicable Me' and 'Shrek' as high-grossing animated franchises are 'Ice Age', 'Madagascar' and 'Toy Story'.
