Breaking Barriers: Inspiring Youth in the Createch Industries

In 2024, inspiring young minds to venture into the creative technical industries (Createch as we call it) presents unique challenges, and one we take seriously in our home turf in Stoke-on-Trent. With AI advancements making headlines and significant skills gaps in the UK labor market, the landscape for the Createch industry appears daunting. Yet, in Stoke, we're privileged to have access to excellent colleges and universities, nurturing a passionate pool of young talent eager to delve into the Createch sector.

Createch encompasses Animation, Film, UI/UX, Game Development, Emerging Tech, and Marketing. Locally in Stoke we're actively engaged in empowering young individuals to navigate the steep learning curve associated with these industries. While the accessibility of digital art, game development, animation, and marketing tools has never been greater, introducing these skills to the youth remains challenging.

In the past, work experience was a prerequisite due to the high cost of these tools. However, with the advent of comprehensive YouTube tutorials and readily available software, aspiring creators can now master their craft independently. Yet, prevailing misconceptions persist that working in Createch isn't a "real" job, is susceptible to AI replacement, and is poorly compensated.

Contrary to these beliefs, Createch jobs are very rewarding, and well-paid and will evolve but not disappear with A-I, emphasizing the importance of creativity, process, and pipeline in ensuring high-quality content. However, understanding the breadth and depth of the Createch sector locally poses a significant challenge. Many aspiring professionals aspire to work for industry giants like Aardman, Disney, or Pixar, limiting their opportunities to a fraction of what the sector offers.

Animation, for instance, serves as a powerful communication tool in various fields, including advertising, healthcare, architecture, and manufacturing. Therefore, those interested in working in animation should consider all opportunities and must broaden their horizons beyond a handful of prestigious studios and explore the diverse avenues where Createch skills are in demand.

In the rapidly evolving landscape, constant upskilling and adaptability are paramount. Doctors, lawyers, and accountants face the threat of AI altering their professions, highlighting the necessity of agility and proficiency with emerging tools and technologies.

To thrive in the jobs of the future, individuals must remain agile, constantly upskilling, and adaptable to new technologies. By expanding their horizons and embracing the dynamic nature of Createch, young professionals can navigate the ever-changing landscape and carve out rewarding careers in the creative technical industries.

Thanks,

Daniel
