It was the 2017 Oscars in Los Angeles last night.  There was the usual buzz and excitement that fills anyone who’s working in the film industry - or even just hardcore film fanatics.

I have to be honest, I don’t tend to watch the awards live.  Thanks to the time difference, the awards ceremony lands smack bang in the middle of the night for us UK folk!  However when I wake up in the morning I do like to have a quick look at the winners, particularly for animation of course!

This years nominations for Best Animated Feature were:

Kubo and the Two Strings
My Life as a Zucchini
The Red Turtle

I was so pleased to discover the winner was ‘Zootopia’.  It’s such a well thought-out film that appeals to a wide audience and sends an important message to children.  Oh and it’s gorgeous to look at too!

If you haven’t seen it, very briefly it is about a young rabbit who joins the Zootopia police force.  Arriving with optimism she soon discovers how hard it is to enforce the law, especially being the first ever rabbit officer.  She is determined to solve a mysterious case and prove her worth to the rest of the team.  Unfortunately it’s just not that easy!

Congratulations to all who worked on such a fantastic film and a big well done to the runners up - after all, it must have been a hard choice to make!
